The Epic Of Man 1961 Time Life Books Hardcover Illustrated Book
The Epic of Man is a very good book put out by LIFE Magazine based on their series in the mid-1950's. It is a simple, positive view of the assent of man from prehistoric days to the ancient Greeks. Based on the anthropology and history of those days. This long-out-of-print book from Life magazine, like a similar large-format Life book "The World We Live In," was a key and cherished part of my early childhood (I was born in 1955) and was a key stimulant of my lifelong interest in archaeology, anthropology, prehistory, and ancient history. Beautiful, fascinating illustrations, with several foldout panoramas, and a foreword by the great Loren Eiseley. Of course, some of the text is now inaccurate and, here and there, is a product of a more prejudiced era. Book has minor wear which is to be expected from a book from the 1950's. Really beautiful illustrations from that time. Classic book that is perfect for that retro home coffee table.
